UWA Heads to Valdosta State for GSC Series

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The West Alabama baseball team continues its road trip with a stop at Valdosta, Georgia, to take on Valdosta State in a three-game Gulf South Conference series. The series will start with a doubleheader on Friday, beginning at 2 p.m. CT followed by the single game on Saturday with the time for the first pitch set at 10 a.m. CT.
 
The Tigers enter the series with a 15-18 overall record and a 11-10 conference record. Valdosta State sits at 21-9 overall and 12-6 against GSC competition.
 
Michael Rich continues to lead West Alabama's bats with a .373 batting average and a team-leading 47 hits, nine home runs, and 31 runs batted in. Rich's 47 hits are good for tenth in the GSC, and his nine home runs puts him at eighth.
 
Shortstop Blake Vineyard bats .333 to go along with 31 hits and 16 runs scored. Colden Peeples leads the team with nine stolen bases to accompany his 28 hits and 16 runs batted in. 
 
Jake Nemith leads the team in doubles with 11 and this puts him at eighth in the conference. Nemith adds 38 hits, 21 runs scored, and 20 runs batted in. Kyle Vogler leads the Tigers in runs scored with 32 and sits at third on the team with 29 hits to go with six doubles and three home runs.
 
Left-handed pitcher Jacob Smith (6-2) continues to lead the Tigers on the mound with a 2.86 earned run average and opposing batting average of .220 in 56.2 innings pitched. Smith's 82 strikeouts leads the GSC.
 
First baseman JP Gates leads the Crusader bats with a .408 batting average, 31 runs scored, 49 hits, 10 doubles, and 25 RBIs. Gates sits at fifth in the conference with his .408 batting average.
