Valdosta State Takes Game One Against the Tigers

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The West Alabama baseball team was unable to come out with a win in the first game of a doubleheader against Valdosta State, losing 4-2 after 10 innings of play.
 
The Tigers drop to 15-19 overall and an even 11-11 record in Gulf South Conference action. Valdosta State moves to 22-9 overall and 13-6 in conference play.
 
West Alabama walked away with seven hits in the game, with Colden Peeples and Josh Bower responsible for two hits each. Second baseman Houston Kitterman hit a triple for the first scored run of the game, finishing with one hit, one run, and one run batted in.
 
Jake Nemith and Bryce Newman rounded out the Tiger bats with one hit each.
 
The Tigers had three pitchers take the mound in the game, with Jordan Felps (1-4) taking on the loss. Felps pitched for 0.1 innings and allowed a home run in the bottom of the tenth inning, resulting in three runs. Starter Bryant Quimby allowed only four hits, one run, and one walk while striking out four batters in seven innings of work.
 
The Blazers bats were led by Nick Gonzalez who hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to secure the win. Gonzalez finished with one hit, one run, and three RBIs. Valdosta State had six other batters finish with one hit each.
 
JP Gates (4-0) was credited with the win on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing only two hits, one run, and one walk while striking out 10 out of 21 batters faced.
