Tigers Salvage Game Three in GSC Series Against Valdosta

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The West Alabama baseball team split the last two games of its Gulf South Conference series with Valdosta State, losing the second game 6-4 and winning the third and final game 3-1.
 
The Tigers head back to Livingston with a 16-20 overall record and a 12-12 GSC record. Valdosta State ends the series 23-10 overall and 14-7 in conference play.
 
Blake Vineyard led the Tiger bats in game two, walking away from every plate appearance with a hit. Vineyard finished with three hits, one triple, and one run batted in. Josh Bower came in to pinch hit and walked away with a home run as his one hit, one run, and two RBIs.
 
Lane Domino had one run and one hit in his three at-bats, while second baseman Houston Kitterman finished with one hit and one run in two at-bats.
 
In game three, Vineyard continued his excellent play with two hits and one RBI in four at-bats. Right fielder Jake Nemith had two hits and one run while Colden Peeples finished with one hit and one run scored.
 
Kitterman and Michael Rich rounded out the Tigers' bats for the game with one hit each in game three.
 
In game two, Jacob Smith (6-3) was charged with his third loss on the mound this season. In four innings of work, Smith allowed five hits, six runs, and five walks while striking out six of 21 batters faced. Roe Ketchum came in as relief pitcher and allowed no hits, no runs, and one walk with one strike out against eight batters faced in two innings of work.
 
Javian Stone (1-2) picked up his first pitching win of the season in game three, pitching for 6.1 innings and allowing no runs, three hits, and four walks. Stone struck out three batters as well. Jackson Wynn was credited with his first save this season for his 0.2 innings on the mound with no hits, runs, or walks allowed.
 
For Valdosta State, David Crawford led the bats in game two with two hits, two runs, and one run batted in. Three other Blazers finished with one hit each in the game.
 
In the final game of the series, JP Gates led the way for Valdosta State with his two hits in three plate appearances. Four other batters finished with one hit each.
 
Nick Ferrera walked away with his first win on the mound for the Blazers in game two, pitching for 0.2 innings and allowing no hits, runs, or walks. Relief pitcher Kevin Thomas was credited with his first save.
 
Game three saw five pitchers take the mound for the Blazers with Jeremy Adams (0-3) absorbing the loss. Adams pitched for 2.2 innings and allowed three hits, three runs, and two walks.
 
The Tigers return home to Tartt Field for their next game where they will take on Southeastern Baptist in a non-conference single game on Tuesday, starting at 4 p.m.
