LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Announced on Friday, head baseball coach
Eric DuBose of the University of West Alabama baseball program has added
Cameron Chafetz and
Brock Ward to the coaching staff for the 2024 season.
"I am looking forward to working with these young coaches and am excited to see what we can accomplish and add to the already rich tradition of West Alabama Baseball," said DuBose.
Brock Ward, Assistant Baseball Coach
Ward remains on the coaching staff for UWA baseball in the DuBose era, as he enters his fifth season in his second stint with the Tigers and eighth overall. Between West Alabama, he spent the summer and fall of 2019 as an assistant at the University of West Florida.
After defeating cancer following graduation, he started his coaching career in Livingston as an assistant baseball coach at UWA from 2017-19.
"Coach Ward has been a huge help in the transition process of knowing the ropes and getting me acclimated. I am looking to working alongside him to combine our knowledge to prepare our pitching staff better," added DuBose.
A two-year letter winner for the Tigers in 2014 and 2015, he made 31 appearances out of the bullpen, tossing 28.1 innings with a 3.18 earned run average and acquiring four saves. He was also a part of the 2015 GSC Tournament Championship team.
Transferring to UWA from Mississippi State, he began his playing career at East Central Community College (Miss.).
He played high school baseball for Coach Justin Reed at Louisville (Miss.) High School. At LHS, he was a two-time first team Division 2-3A selection, 2009 Gold Glove Award, Team MVP and captain in 2010. Ward lettered all four years that he was at Louisville High School.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Fitness Administration from UWA in 2015, he earned a Master of Education in 2018.
Cameron Chafetz, Assistant Baseball Coach
Spending the last three seasons at Lawson State Community College (Ala.) outside Birmingham, Chafetz was the hitting and infielders coach at LSCC and was the top assistant in 2023.
The 2023 season saw the Cougars as one of the offensive threats in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC), posting a team batting average of .307 and a slugging percentage of .473. The program also racked up 193 stolen bases for an 88% success rate. A total of four were named All-Conference, while one garnered All-Region. In addition, 16 student-athletes advanced to four-year schools under Chafetz's direction.
During the summer of 2022, Chafetz served as a coach with the New Market Rebels as a part of the Valley League in Virginia, where he coached four All-Stars.
Chafetz graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor's in communication and information Sciences.
"Coach Cam is fired up to get our hitters on campus and start working with them. I believe his intensity and passion for hitting and fielding at high levels will transfer well to our program," said DuBose.
Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Chafetz and his wife Shelby live in Tuscaloosa with their son, Beckett.
