Men's Soccer Routs Shorter 8-1

The University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team routed Shorter 8-1 this afternoon in Tiger Stadium, breaking a program record for most goals scored against a GSC opponent.

The Tigers found the goal early and often, as Baronyi Kengeye scored the opening goal in the 9th minute of the match, assisted by Connor Dugan. Kengeye couldn't stay away, as he scored once again in the 11th minute, assisted by Ellis Williamson. Kengeye's offensive clinic was interrupted in the 23rd minute as Leo Barajas knocked one through for the Hawks, assisted by Miguel Souza. The Tigers answered the call nearly instantly, as West Alabama's David Nunez scored just 17 seconds later unassisted.

Kengeye's stellar performance continued into the 2nd half, as he scored West Alabama's 4th goal off a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. The Tigers saw no reason to take their foot off the gas, as Richard Lopez scored West Alabama's 5th goal in the 54th minute, assisted by David Nunez. Antione Amet joined the scoring frenzy in the 65th minute, as he broke the Hawks defenses unassisted. Ellis Williamson and Yannick Pohland finished off Shorter with the final two Tiger goals in the 84th and 90th minutes, with Pohland being assisted by Jahir Hernandez.

The Tigers move to 3-1-2 on the season and will bump heads with Spring Hill in Livingston Sunday September 24th. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
