The University of West Alabama men's soccer team defeated the Spring Hill Badgers today in full time
3-0 at Tiger Stadium in Livingston.
Reigning United Soccer Coaches National Player of The Week Baronyi Kengeye started off the Tiger's offensive with a bang as he scored off an assist from David Lopez in the 28th minute, setting up the Tigers with a 1-0 lead.
Kengeye wasn't finished, as he took another shot on goal in the 30th minute that was saved by Spring Hill's Martin Gomez. Spring Hill's Adrian Rodríguez attempted to answer in the 38th minute with a shot on goal saved by Lasse Schwieren.
The Tigers closed out the 1st half with an on-target response from Michael Bell, assisted by Potien Lembo, giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage going into the half.
Kengeye got right back to the offensive for West Alabama in the 51st minute with a shot on goal that was saved by Martin Gomez. David Nunez answered with the Tiger's third goal, assisted by Oneal David in the 55th Minute.
The Badgers would attempt to respond just 17 seconds later with a shot on goal by Izan Quesada Leal, but to no avail as the shot was saved by UWA's Lasse Schwieren. Spring Hill wouldn't take another shot in the 2nd half, giving the Tigers the 3-0 victory.
"I think it's fair to say that today was a good day at the office! Three more points on the board, clean sheet, and we continue our unbeaten run in the GSC. Special mention to our defensive unit today. I thought they were fantastic! As always, we will focus on recovery for now and turn all our attention to our next game." said Coach Ross Nelson in the postgame.
The Men move to 4-1-2 overall, and 2-0-1 in Gulf South Conference play. The Tigers will travel to Montevallo on Friday night to take on the Falcons of Montevallo. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
