PREVIEWING THE SAINTS
Limestone enters Week 2 of the 2023 season with an 0-1 record, nearly knocking off then No. 22 West Georgia on Aug. 31. The Wolves had an 82-yard run by Wesley Kennedy to make it 21-12 with 5:31 left in regulation.

The Saints made it a two-point game with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Cal Endicott to Jelani Baker with 1:32 to go. However, instead of going for the on-side kick with two timeouts remaining, they kicked the ball off and UWG started the drive on their own 16-yard line.

After back-to-back rushing plays to make it a third down and one situation, Limestone burned a timeout with 35 seconds remaining. On the next play from scrimmage, Wesley Kennedy essentially ended the game with a 28-yard run.

Despite the set back, the Rams are still receiving votes in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) national poll.

In 2022, Limestone finished 8-4 and earned a spot in the NCAA Division II Championships, falling to West Florida in the opening round.

LIMESTONE SERIES HISTORY
West Alabama and Limestone will meet for the fourth time in program history on Saturday afternoon. UWA has won the previous three meetings, with the teams last squaring off in Livingston during the 2020-21 spring season.

Playing the first-ever "countable" spring game in the history of UWA football at Tiger Stadium, West Alabama had a 20-10 lead en route to a 27-17 victory on March 6, 2021.

The Tigers will play in Gaffney, South Carolina for the first time since 2018, the first-ever meeting between the two schools. A game-winning 45-yard field goal by Jordan Bennett with the clock running out to give UWA the 16-13 win.

WASHINGTON WINS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Gulf South Conference (GSC) announced that senior defensive back Artavious Washington was chosen as the league's Defensive Player of the Week after his performance against No. 5/6 Angelo State on Aug. 31.

The Lexington, Miss. native had two interceptions against one of the best defenses in the country a year ago and added three tackles and a pass breakup.

His first career interception in a Tiger uniform was a big one for both ends of the ball. On a third down play in the first period, Washington picked off Gerald Gardner's pass and returned it 38 yards to the ASU 27-yard-line. On the next play from scrimmage, Spencer Arceneaux scored on a 27-yard rush to even the game at seven.

Late in the first half, with the Rams driving inside the red zone, Gardner found Washington again in the end zone for his second INT of the game that ended a six-play, 49-yard drive.

GETTING THE STOPS BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE
West Alabama totaled eight tackles for a loss against Angelo State, one of the best defenses in the country from a year ago. Jamal Ellis and Trevon Stanford each had two for a loss to lead the way, while Trevon Lambert was credited with two quarterback hurries.
