HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Alabama Huntsville Chargers in their third match of Gulf South Conference play on Tuesday.
Statically, the match was evenly matched in a lot of areas except UAH (13-1, 4-0 GSC) had 30 kills, 14 errors over 91 attempts, while West Alabama (1-12, 0-3 GSC) recorded 25 kills with 23 errors over 97 attempts.
Alabama Huntsville has only lost one set in their last seven matches but UWA threatened to make it two in the first. KB Kinney exploded for six kills in the game on a .750 hitting percentage, carrying the Tigers' offense. Outside of Kinney, West Alabama struggled on that side of the net as they finished the set with a team .158 hitting percentage. The Chargers were only a couple percentages higher, turning in a .176 hitting percentage on 10 kills which was enough to lead UAH to a 25-23 set win.
The second set was all Alabama Huntsville as they stifled West Alabama's offensive attack. The Chargers held the Tigers to five kills on a -.261 hitting percentage, propelling UAH to a 25-11 set win.
With their backs against the wall in the third set, UWA played better on the offensive end. Kinney continued her career day, putting down three more kills in the set, while Peyton Quesnel added two. The duo combined for five of West Alabama's eight kills in the game, but it wasn't enough, with Alabama Huntsville registering 13 kills, leading the Chargers to a 25-18 win.
The Tigers offense was carried by Kinney, who had a career-high 12 kills on a .526 hitting percentage while setter Taylor Lamontagne recorded 19 assists.
The Tigers are looking to redeem themselves in their next match as they play host to Trevecca Nazarene on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
