Volleyball Falls to Bulldogs in Friday Night Play

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Volleyball team fell, 3-0, to the Union Bulldogs on Friday night.

West Alabama (2-17, 0-9 GSC) couldn't produce offense consistently, recording 27 kills on a .009 hitting percentage while Union (5-12, 3-5 GSC) put down 24 kills on a .146 hitting percentage.

The first set was competitive to begin with the Bulldogs taking an 11-10 lead early. Kills from Gracie Pierscinski, KB Kinney, Peyton Quesnel, and Cloe Bonvillain kept the set in reach for the Tigers until the Bulldogs used an 8-5 run to win the game, 25-21.

UWA came out fast in the second set as a kill from Jaida Alvin gave West Alabama a 9-7 lead. Union responded with a 3-0 run to pull ahead before another kill from Pierscinski and a block from Alvin moved the pendulum back in favor of the Tigers. The two teams continued to trade leads until Union used a 10-2 run to take the set, 25-17.

With their eyes on a sweep, the Bulldogs won the race to 10 by two points in the third set. Down 10-8, West Alabama needed a spark and got from Alvin as the sophomore sparked a 4-1 UWA run to cut the Tigers' deficit to 13-12. Moments later, a kill from Union's Reese Owens halted West Alabama's momentum and swung it back towards the Bulldogs. Owens' kill ignited a 12-6 run, leading to a 25-18 set win for Union.

Quesnel led the way offensively for UWA, recording seven kills on a .294 hitting percentage, while Taylor Lamontagne dished out 21 assists.

West Alabama will finish off their weekend on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. GSC matchup against Christian Brothers at Pruitt Hall.
