CLEVELAND, Miss. - The West Alabama (5-5-3, 3-4-2 GSC) men's soccer team secured a thrilling 4-2 victory over Delta State (3-4-5, 2-3-2 GSC) on Sunday, setting the stage for their upcoming Homecoming (Red Wave) match against Alabama-Huntsville on Friday, October 25th, at 7:30 p.m.
Delta State took the early lead in the seventh minute with Hardy Lewis finding the bottom right corner, but West Alabama quickly responded.
David Nunez scored twice in the first half, once in the 18th minute and again in the 37th, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Ellis Williamson extended the advantage in the second half with a top-left strike, assisted by
Ronny Wakelin. Although Delta State pulled one back late through James Lynch, Wakelin sealed the game moments later with his own goal.
Statistically, West Alabama had eight shots, with six on goal, while Delta State recorded 11 shots, seven on goal. Goalkeeper
Timon Dressel made three key saves to keep the Tigers ahead, while Nunez, Wakelin, and Williamson played pivotal roles in the offensive display.
West Alabama now prepares to host Alabama-Huntsville on Friday, October 25th, aiming to continue their momentum in front of a lively Homecoming crowd.
