LIVINGSTON, Ala. - In a thrilling Homecoming showdown, West Alabama men's soccer came up short in a 3-2 loss to Alabama-Huntsville on Friday night.
The Chargers struck early with a goal by Malek Elbendary in the second minute, putting the Tigers on the defensive. West Alabama found their rhythm in the second half, equalizing in the 51st minute when
Alfie Tucker scored his first goal of the season, assisted by
David Nunez.
Alabama-Huntsville responded swiftly, reclaiming the lead in the 68th minute with a goal by Oli Orzechowski, assisted by Kieran Rowe. The Tigers rallied again in the 83rd minute, with Nunez finding the net for his sixth goal of the season, assisted by
Michael Bell, to level the score at 2-2. However, a minute later, the Chargers secured the game-winning goal as Donovan Pruitte capitalized on a breakaway opportunity, sealing the 3-2 victory.
West Alabama led in shots with 14 to Alabama-Huntsville's 11 and registered eight shots on goal to their opponent's seven. The Tigers fought hard with six corner kicks, staying aggressive throughout the game. The loss moves West Alabama to 5-6-3 (3-5-2 GSC) for the season as they look to rebound in their next matchup.
