LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Volleyball team is set to continue its Gulf South Conference slate this weekend, heading to Clinton, Mississippi to face the Mississippi College Choctaws on Thursday, October 24th at 6:00 p.m. and then head back home to face Auburn Montgomery Warhawks on Friday, October 25th at 4:00 p.m.
West Alabama (2-19, 0-11 GSC) is seeking its first conference win as it faces a Mississippi College team (10-9, 8-3 GSC) riding a wave of success. The Choctaws come into the match after a strong showing in the GSC, having won their last few contests. Auburn Montgomery (8-13, 4-6 GSC) will be looking to improve its standing after a challenging stretch in the conference.
Jaida Alvin remains a standout for UWA, leading the team with 146 kills and an impressive 174 points this season. The sophomore outside hitter boasts a strong swing but will aim to improve her hitting efficiency, which currently stands at .053. Her performance will be critical as the Tigers look to challenge the defensive setups of Mississippi College and Auburn Montgomery.
Setters
Taylor Lamontagne and
KB Kinney have also made significant contributions, with Lamontagne leading the team in assists with 288. Her recent offensive aggression has been evident in her ability to score with setter dumps, accumulating seven kills over the past four matches.
KB Kinney adds depth to the setting position, but primarily plays at the outside hitter position for West Alabama. Both will need to keep the offense moving to find success against tough opponents.
Mississippi College enters the match with one of the best offenses in the GSC, having accumulated 783 kills with a hitting percentage of .173. Lydia Paulette has been a dominant force for the Choctaws, leading the team with 280 kills and an impressive kills per-set average. The Tigers must focus on minimizing errors and improving their defense, especially against a team that can score efficiently.
Auburn Montgomery also poses a challenge with a solid offensive lineup with 668 kills and a hitting percentage of .158. The Warhawks' balanced attack includes key players who can change the game, making it essential for West Alabama to step up its defensive efforts.
First serve for the matchup against Mississippi College is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a Friday showdown against Auburn Montgomery at 4:00 p.m.
