LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Volleyball team fell, 3-0, to Alabama Huntsville on Tuesday evening in Pruitt Hall.
West Alabama (2-22, 0-14 GSC) displayed a solid performance, recording 27 kills and posting their best hitting percentage in the second set with a .207, but ultimately couldn't keep pace with Alabama Huntsville (21-3, 12-2 GSC), who finished with 40 kills on a .176 hitting percentage.
Alabama Huntsville controlled the first set early, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. West Alabama's defense, led by
Gracie Pierscinski and
Gracie Huver at the net, helped tighten the game as a few service aces from
Taylor Lamontagne and
Jaida Alvin chipped into UAH's lead, but the Chargers held firm, closing out the first set 25-15.
The Tigers responded strongly in the second, powered by kills from
Cloe Bonvillain and
Jaida Alvin, and took an early 10-6 lead. With momentum, West Alabama kept the set close, holding a late 23-22 advantage. However, UAH rallied with a solid push to secure a 25-23 win.
In the third set, West Alabama continued to fight with a balanced attack from Bonvillain, Alvin, and
Makenzie Widmer, who combined for eight kills. Despite their efforts, UAH capitalized on a few Tiger errors, pulling away for a 25-20 victory to clinch the match.
Autumn Mayes led UAH offensively with a team-high of eight kills. Defensively, Kaila
Sisk controlled the net with a match-high five blocks. Savannah Rutledge led in assists with 17, and Kelsey Gasaway added ten assists to help guide the offense. Hailey
Holshouser led UAH's backline defense with 12 digs.
Bonvillain led the Tigers with seven kills and five digs, Pierscinski recorded five blocks, and
Maggie Roddam added 11 digs.
West Alabama will look to regroup as they head on the road to face Lee University on Friday, November 1st, at 6 p.m.
