LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team fell 1-0 to Montevallo in a closely contested match on Friday night at the UWA Soccer & Track Complex.
The Tigers, now 3-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in GSC play, could not find the back of the net despite taking 19 shots, nine of which were on goal. Montevallo (4-2-2, 3-1-1 GSC) scored the lone goal of the match in the final minute, with Cristobal Porter netting his third goal this season.
The first half was a battle of defenses, with both teams taking eight shots apiece but unable to break through. UWA's
Alfie Tucker was shown a yellow card in the 22nd minute, while Montevallo's Sebastian Flores received a caution just before halftime. The Tigers applied heavy pressure throughout the match, particularly in the second half when they fired 11 shots. However, Montevallo's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Tomas Valles, who recorded nine saves, stood firm.
Porter's decisive goal came with just 17 seconds left to play after Montevallo managed to counterattack and capitalized on a late-game opportunity. UWA's goalkeeper,
Timon Dressel, made seven saves to keep the Tigers in the match, but the Tigers couldn't overcome Montevallo's resilience.
West Alabama will look to bounce back on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama, to take on Auburn-Montgomery in another GSC contest.
