Men's Basketball Opens up Home Schedule Against John Melvin

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The West Alabama men's basketball team (1-1) is set to host John Melvin Christian College on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.

With a solid 83-59 win over Central State in their last outing, the Tigers look to build momentum as they face an under the radar John Melvin team.

West Alabama has shown strong shooting efficiency through two games, converting 52% from the field and 44.1% from beyond the arc. Led by the backcourt tandem of Jaylen Lemons and Marcellious Lockett, the Tigers' offense has averaged 69.5 points per game. Lemons, averaging 12.5 points, provides reliable scoring and court vision, while Lockett has shot an impressive 57.1% from the floor, including 6-of-11 from deep.

Forward Caleb McGill has also played a pivotal role, averaging 9.5 points and showing versatility on both ends. Newcomer Michael McIntosh, a transfer from Coastal Alabama, has quickly made an impact, scoring 11 points in UWA's 24-point win over the Marauders . His inside presence, coupled with Rasean Frederick's efficient play, should bolster the Tigers against John Melvin.

John Melvin Christian College (3-0) boasts an offensive output of 86 points per game, driven by their trio of top scorers. Tyler Camplin leads the way, averaging 15.7 points while shooting 40.9% from the field. Alongside him, Joshua Wyatt (12.3 ppg) and Eddie Cotton (13.0 ppg) have provided additional scoring depth, with Wyatt particularly dangerous from beyond the arc, hitting 31.3% of his attempts.

Defensively, the Tigers will need to contain John Melvin's perimeter shooters, as they have averaged 39.1% from three-point range. West Alabama's 4.5 steals per game and their ability to force turnovers will be key to disrupting John Melvin's offensive rhythm.

The game tips off Thursday, November 14th at 7:00 p.m. in Pruitt Hall, where West Alabama will seek to improve to 2-1 and set the tone for the remainder of the season.
