LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The West Alabama women's basketball team fell to Miles College 72-58 at Pruitt Hall on November 21.
Despite a strong second-half effort, the Tigers were unable to overcome a slow start.
UWA struggled with efficiency in the first quarter, shooting just 7.14%, but improved their performance as the game progressed. After struggling in the first half and trailing 40-17 at the break, UWA came out of halftime energized, delivering an impressive third-quarter surge. The Tigers outscored Miles 25-13 in the period, with
Callie Cowan and
Julia Rodriguez leading the charge.
Cowan finished with a team-high 15 points, including 7-of-10 from the free-throw line, while Rodriguez added 12 points and a game-high eight assists.
Shayla Golden contributed 9 points off the bench. The Tigers shot 46.2% from the field and 75% from beyond the arc in the third, cutting into the deficit with a mix of defensive stops and fast-break opportunities.
Miles College was paced by Tederia Ashley's 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Feliah Greer added 15 points. The Golden Bears capitalized on points off turnovers (32) and controlled the paint with 44 points inside.
UWA looks to bounce back when they face Tuskegee University on the road on November 25.
