Tigers Fall to Blazers on Senior Day

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama fell to Valdosta State in straight sets (25-11, 25-15, 25-20) at Pruitt Hall on Senior Day, honoring their lone senior, Berfin Mertcan.

Valdosta State showcased efficiency throughout the match, taking control early and maintaining their momentum to secure the win.

In the first set, Valdosta State capitalized on UWA's errors, hitting an impressive .667 while holding the Tigers to a -.182 hitting percentage. Despite efforts from Mertcan and strong defense by Maggie Roddam, UWA couldn't find their rhythm and dropped the set 25-11. The second set saw West Alabama improve slightly, led by Jaida Alvin and KB Kinney, who contributed to the Tigers' offense. However, Valdosta State's consistent play, including four service aces and a .333 hitting percentage, helped them take the set 25-15.

UWA displayed resilience in the third set, with Kinney and Alvin adding key kills to keep the score close. The Tigers battled to stay within reach but ultimately fell short, as Valdosta State's well-rounded attack and timely blocks sealed a 25-20 victory.

West Alabama moves to 2-25 on the season and 0-17 in conference play. The Tigers will look to close their home schedule on a high note against West Florida on Saturday, November 9, with first serve at 1:00 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
