Tigers Drop Road GSC Contest to Trojans

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team fell to the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans, 64-51, at the Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

West Alabama (5-4, 2-2 GSC) and Trevecca Nazarene (7-3, 2-2 GSC) played a competitive first half, but the Trojans negated the Tigers' offense in the second half, leading to TNU outscoring UWA, 37-26, in the period to propel them to their 13-point win.

Much like their game against Lee, West Alabama came out of the gates fast, burying four threes in the first seven minutes to take a 13-10 lead. After the hot start from deep, UWA's offense went cold at around the 8:00 minute mark as the Tigers missed four consecutive shots and turned the ball over in two possessions, resulting in a 7-0 Trevecca Nazarene run to give the Trojans their first lead of the night at 20-19. Threes from Thaddeus Williams and Jaylen Lemons broke the ice and gave West Alabama a two-point lead until Trevecca Nazarene scored the next four points in the half, taking a 27-25 lead into the break.

In a defensive first half, both teams shot well under 40 percent from the floor while UWA made three more threes than TNU, shooting the deep ball at a 40 percent clip.

The second half was dominated by Trevecca Nazarene's rim protectors, Caleb Terry and NaVuan Peterson along with Jalen Page on the offensive end. The Trojans' frontcourt duo combined for eight blocks in the period, resulting in West Alabama shooting 22.2 percent from the field. Offensively, Page scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the second half which led to the Trojans controlling the final 20 minutes. Williams was the only source of consistent offense for the Tigers, scoring 13 of his team-high 20 points in the second as UWA fell, 64-51, in Nashville.

Besides Williams' 20 points, McGill added 11 points and three rebounds.

West Alabama will return to Pruitt Hall on Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup against Delta State.
