MERIDIAN, Miss. – The University of West Alabama rodeo teams opened the spring schedule this past weekend from the Lauderdale County Agri-Center. The women's team won the show, while the men took third.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Lauren Booty finished second in goat tying with a 14.7 average. In a very tight competition all weekend, she tied for second on the first go (7.3) and tied for third on the second attempt (7.4).
Grace Bryant, after her showing of 7.3 in the second go in the goat tying, finished the weekend at third with a 14.8 average.
Jaylie Matthews collected third in the barrel racing with a 30.9 average.
Winning the event by 115 points over Missouri Valley College, the Tigers have won their fourth rodeo show this season out of six total.
MEN'S RECAP
Kota Wilhite earned silver in the calf roping. Using a 9.4 on the first go, he finishes the weekend with a 20.7 average.
Clarke Gordon rallied from a slow start in the team roping. After not placing in the first round, he scored a six the following round to finish second with an average of 15.
Harrison McGriff earned second in the bull riding with a 154 score. He did take the top spot in the first attempt with a score of 84.
UWA will return to the arena this weekend, March 21-23, for the Pearl River Rodeo Show in Poplarville, Mississippi.
