MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of West Alabama rodeo teams traveled to the University of Arkansas at Monticello for a weekend event. As the season is winding down, the Tiger men took fourth in the showdown, while the women finished in seventh.
"Needless to say, it didn't go as well as we had planned for. There are a couple things I should've done different that cost us from finishing better. We still have one more show to go, and we will look to finish on a strong note," said head coach
Daniel Poole.
In the calf roping,
Clarke Gordon rallied from a 13 in the first round to score a 10.8 on the second attempt to win it. His score saw him finish with an average of 23.8 for the top spot on the leaderboard.
Gordon also scored in the team roping with a 27.1 average.
Also in the calf roping,
Blayne Saine won the first go (9.0) and
Clay Livengood took third (10.2).
Ashley Henderson's second go of 3.1 was good enough to take third overall (5.9) in the breakaway roping.
Joanna Hammett earned second place in the first attempt in the goat tying (7.2), while
Lauren Booty's 13.41 on the second go in the barrel racing helped her to finish third in the event with a 27.09 average.
The regular season wraps up next weekend at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
