SENATOBIA, Miss. – The University of West Alabama men's rodeo team took third place at the Northwest Mississippi Rodeo over weekend from Northwest Mississippi Community College with a score of 580 points.
With the finish, the Tigers take second place in the Ozark Region with 4,110 points and qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in June from Casper, Wyoming.
UWA had a 130-point advantage with Northwest Mississippi going into the final show of the season, and despite the Rangers posting 650 points to win the event this weekend, the Tigers edged them by 60 points to hold on to second place.
Blayne Saine took the championship in the calf roping with an 18.2 average after earning gold medals in both attempts.
Clarke Gordon shared the top spot with Blake Lyons from Pearl River Community College in the team roping, as each averaged a 13.4 between their two attempts.
Clay Livengood earned third in the calf roping event with a 20.5 average. On the second go, he rallied from a slow start to take second in the attempt with a 9.4.
The 2024 College National Finals Rodeo will begin on Sunday, June 9 and run through Friday, June 13 from the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming. More information will be provided at a later date.
