LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday morning, Marissa Mitchell of the University of West Alabama softball team was named a member of the NFCA All-Region First Team.
Mitchell adds to her already impressive list of 2024 accolades as she was named First Team All-GSC and GSC Co-Player of the Year after a stellar season.
In her first season in a Tiger uniform, the junior enters NCAA Regionals third in Division II with 23 home runs and first in RBIs with 82, with both being single-season program records.
"Marissa is having a phenomenal season. For someone who works as hard as she does, this is a well-deserved honor. She is the epitome of a great teammate and has the type of character we value at UWA," said head coach Stephanie Defeo.
The West Alabama shortstop has started all 52 games, scoring 63 runs on 69 hits, including 12 doubles and a triple. In addition, the Tigers' top slugger boasted a .442 batting average, a .974 slugging percentage, a .532 on-base percentage, and 15 stolen bases.
Mitchell and the Tigers will take on Mississippi College in the opening round of the NCAA South Regional in Clinton, Mississippi Thursday evening. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex.
