Men’s Soccer Concludes Road Trip with Win over Badgers

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team ended their four-match road trip with a 2-0 win over Spring Hill on Friday.

West Alabama (3-2-2, 1-1-1 GSC)  dominated most of the possessions and created two more shots than Spring Hill (3-3, 2-1 GSC), resulting in two more goals for the Tigers.

A defensive first half saw UWA take four shots, with Aiden Riley and Kevin Garcia putting their shots on goal. West Alabama possessed the ball for majority of the period, holding the Badgers to just two shots, with neither one of them being on goal. As Spring Hill struggled to keep the ball on the UWA's side of the field, frustration began to mount as the Badger's Rutger Hessink and Alessandro Merlo also picked up a pair of yellow cards before we went to halftime.

The Badgers' goalkeeper, Martin Gomez, recorded three saves in the first half, while West Alabama's Dressel didn't have to record any with Spring Hill not able to put a shot on goal.

The offensive stalemate continued into the second half until UWA's offense found their flow and rhythm in the 78th minute. Ellis Williamson sent a long pristine pass to Joe Wright who converted on his goal of the season to put the Tigers up 1-0 with 12 minutes left to play. West Alabama's defense continued to be stellar after Wright's goal as Dressel saved a potential match-tying goal off the foot of Adrian Rodriguez. Moments later, UWA's Michael Bell put the match out of reach, scoring his second goal in as many matches to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead with just one minute left to play. Bell's goal essentially ended the match as West Alabama left the city of Mobile with a 2-0 victory.

Williamson and Bell scored the goals for the Tigers while Dressel made two saves in goal.

West Alabama will now return home on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. GSC matchup against Montevallo.
