LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Volleyball team struggled offensively and fell 3-0 to Mississippi College in a Gulf South Conference match on Friday, September 27.
The loss drops the Tigers to 1-11 overall and 0-3 in GSC play, while Mississippi College improves to 3-6 and 1-1 in the conference.
West Alabama had difficulty maintaining consistency throughout the match, posting a negative hitting percentage of -.132 while Mississippi College managed a .138 hitting percentage on their way to a straight-set victory, winning 25-14, 25-20, and 25-17.
Peyton Quesnel led the Tigers with eight kills, while
Jaida Alvin added four kills and three blocks. Setter
Taylor Lamontagne dished out 12 assists, and
Maggie Roddam contributed a match-high 10 digs.
Mississippi College's Lydia Paulette dominated at the net with 11 kills and three blocks, while Rhaia Davey posted a match-high eight blocks, making it difficult for West Alabama to get into a rhythm.
In the first set, West Alabama struggled to generate offense, committing 13 errors with only eight kills, which resulted in a -.161 hitting percentage. Mississippi College capitalized on the Tigers' mistakes to take the set 25-14. The Tigers improved slightly in the second set, with eight kills, but Mississippi College's defense held strong to secure the 25-20 win. The Tigers' attack faltered again in the third set, managing only four kills as Mississippi College closed out the match 25-17.
West Alabama will look to regroup as they prepare for a road trip to Huntsville, Alabama on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. matchup against Alabama Huntsville.
