MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The West Alabama men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on the road to Christian Brothers, Friday night at Signaigo Field in Gulf South Conference play.
After a scoreless first half, the Buccaneers found their breakthrough in the 58th minute when Thomas Lando capitalized to put CBU ahead. Just over two minutes later, Juan Minguez Malonda doubled the lead, giving Christian Brothers a two-goal cushion that held for the remainder of the match.
The Tigers (3-4-2, 3-2-1 GSC) struggled to generate chances early but gained momentum in the second half, tallying all five of their shots after the break, including one on target. Despite their push, West Alabama could not break through a strong CBU back line and goalkeeper Sebastian Torka, who needed just one save to preserve the shutout.
Christian Brothers (6-2-1, 3-0-1 GSC) outshot UWA 17-5, holding a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 13-4 edge in corner kicks.
Charlie Walker made five saves in goal for the Tigers while facing consistent pressure throughout the contest.
West Alabama will look to bounce back quickly, returning to the field on Sunday, October 12, for another GSC matchup against in Jackson, Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
