JACKSON, Tenn. – University of West Alabama Tigers men's soccer picked up an impressive 3-0 road win over Union University Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex in Gulf South Conference play.
The Tigers got on the board first in the 29th minute when
Daniel Christensen scored his first goal of the season, assisted by
Oisin Griffin. UWA carried the 1-0 lead into halftime after a competitive opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, West Alabama extended the lead in the 61st minute when
Gonzalo Rawinad found the back of the net off an assist from
Jamie Tomlinson. Just two minutes later, Rawinad turned provider, setting up
David Nunez for his eighth goal of the year to make it 3-0.
The Tigers' defense stood firm throughout the match, with goalkeeper
Charlie Walker making five saves to secure the clean sheet. West Alabama finished the match with 13 total shots, including seven on goal, while Union tallied 12 shots and five on target.
With the win, West Alabama improves to 4-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in GSC play. The Tigers will return home for their next match on Friday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. when they host Delta State University Statesmen at UWA Soccer Field for Senior Day.
