Tigers Battle Hard but Fall Short Against Valdosta State

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team fought hard but fell to Valdosta State 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Pruitt Hall. .

The Tigers (6-10, 2-7 GSC) came out strong behind Raven Grant's opening kill and steady play from Katerina Korre and Klára Bobánová, but Valdosta State (6-11, 5-3 GSC) edged out a close first set. UWA rallied in the second behind Cadence Goeden's timely swings and a strong defensive effort from Gracie Huver and Grant, though the Blazers held on 25-21.

West Alabama responded in the third, overcoming an early deficit with key kills from Grant and Jazlyn Snow to take the set 25-23. The Tigers built early momentum again in the fourth, but Valdosta State's balanced attack proved too much down the stretch as the Blazers closed the match 25-19.

Goeden and Grant led the Tigers offensively, while Jana Petkovic directed the attack and anchored the defense. Korre, Snow, and Huver added steady support at the net.

UWA now turns its focus to a two-match road trip in Tennessee, facing the Union Bulldogs in Jackson, Tennessee on Thursday, Oct. 17, before visiting Christian Brothers in Memphis on Friday, Oct. 18. The Tigers will look to regroup and gain momentum as conference play continues.
