LIVINGSTON, Ala. – A dominant second-half performance lifted the West Alabama Tigers men's soccer to a 5-1 victory over Delta State on Friday night at the UWA Soccer Field. The win came on Senior Day and improved the Tigers' record to 5-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in Gulf South Conference play.
Delta State opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a goal by Ryan Thistle, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. But from there, West Alabama took control of the match, scoring five unanswered goals in the second half.
The comeback began in the 51st minute when Henry Donovan netted his first goal of the season off an assist from David Nunez. Nunez then gave UWA the lead in the 63rd minute with his ninth goal of the season.
The Tigers kept the momentum going as Clement Baron made it 3-1 in the 74th minute, assisted by Kyrylo Peregudov and Ronny Wakelin. Nunez struck again just minutes later in the 79th minute, scoring his second of the night and 10th of the season off an assist from Aidan Riley.
The scoring was capped in the 84th minute when Harrison Page found the back of the net for his second goal of the year, assisted by Kevin Garcia, sealing the emphatic win for the Tigers.
West Alabama outshot Delta State 15-6, including a 10-4 advantage in the second half. Goalkeeper Charlie Walker made two saves in the win, while UWA generated five corner kicks compared to DSU's four.
The Tigers will look to keep the momentum rolling when they return to action on Sunday, October 19, against Mississippi College Choctaws men's soccer at 3:30 p.m. from the UWA Soccer Field.
