LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama Tigers men's soccer came up just short in their home finale on Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Mississippi College Choctaws men's soccer at the UWA Soccer Field.
Both teams battled through a scoreless first half before the Choctaws broke the deadlock early in the second. In the 48th minute, Lewis Matton capitalized on an assist from Callum Lee to slot home what would be the match's only goal.
The Tigers pushed for an equalizer, recording seven total shots and seven corner kicks, but were unable to find the back of the net. David Nunez led the attack with multiple attempts on goal, while Harrison Page came close with a late shot that went just wide.
Goalkeeper Charlie Walker finished with three saves on the day, keeping the Tigers within striking distance. Mississippi College outshot UWA 15-7, with four of their attempts on frame.
The physical matchup featured five yellow cards for UWA and three for Mississippi College.
With the loss, UWA moves to 5-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in Gulf South Conference play. The Tigers will now turn their focus to their final stretch of the regular season on the road. West Alabama will Play on Friday, October 24th against UAH at 7:30 PM.
