HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1–0 defeat on the road Thursday night, conceding the lone goal of the match in the 89th minute against Alabama Huntsville at Charger Park.
After 88 minutes of gritty, defensive play, UAH's Oli Orzechowski broke the scoreless deadlock with his sixth goal of the season to lift the Chargers past the Tigers in the final moments.
The match was tightly contested throughout, with both sides creating chances but struggling to convert. UWA (5-6-2, 5-4-1 GSC) totaled eight shots, three of which were on goal, while UAH (7-3-3, 4-3-2 GSC) finished with 11 shots and five on target.
Goalkeeper Charlie Walker turned in another solid performance between the posts for the Tigers, collecting four saves to keep his team in contention until the late breakthrough.
Despite a balanced first half and strong defensive showing, West Alabama couldn't find the finishing touch in the attacking third, as UAH's Sonny Wright recorded three saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The loss halts UWA's recent momentum as the Tigers now look to bounce back in their next Gulf South Conference matchup against West Florida on the road on Friday, October 31st.
