Men’s Soccer Falls Short in Regular Season Finale Against No. 24 Argonauts

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Alabama men's soccer team came up just short in its regular season finale, falling 2-1 on the road to No. 24 West Florida Friday night at the UWF Soccer Complex.

With the result, the Tigers close the regular season with a 5-7-2 overall record and 5-5-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while the nationally ranked Argonauts improved to 10-1-4 overall and 7-0-3 in GSC action.

West Florida got on the board first in the 38th minute, when Manu Bernabeu netted his 10th goal of the season, assisted by Adrian Rodriguez, to give the Argonauts a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Argos extended their advantage in the 56th minute as Jonas Grauer scored off an assist from Nikolas Rodriguez Alzate, making it 2-0 in favor of West Florida.

UWA battled back and found life in the 74th minute, when freshman Gonzalo Rawinad scored his third goal of the season to cut the deficit in half. Despite several late efforts, the Tigers couldn't find the equalizer.

West Alabama finished the match with 11 shots (5 on goal), while West Florida totaled 13 shots (7 on goal). The Argonauts also held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Charlie Walker turned in another strong outing for UWA, recording five saves on the night. Tomas Valles Gilbert collected four saves for West Florida.

The Tigers' attack was led by Rawinad, Clement Baron, and Henry Donovan, each registering two shots, while Harrison Page and Kyrylo Peregudov also added scoring chances.

Despite the loss, UWA finishes its 2025 regular season, now waiting for the league announcement of opponent and time for Sunday, November 9th.
