LIVINGSTON, Ala. — West Alabama (8-12, 4-9 GSC) earned redemption on Friday night inside Pruitt Hall, defeating Mississippi College (8-14, 5-7 GSC) in four sets. The victory avenged the Tigers' earlier loss to the Choctaws on Sept. 26 in Clinton.
The Tigers opened the match with one of their most efficient offensive showings of the season, hitting .457 in the first set. Cadence Goeden set the tone early with a kill off an assist from KB Kinney, sparking a 6-1 run that forced an early Mississippi College timeout. Jana Petkovic added a service ace during the stretch, and multiple kills from Klára Bobánová and Goeden helped West Alabama maintain its lead. Despite a brief rally from the Choctaws, the Tigers closed out the set 25-20 on another Goeden kill.
In the second set, West Alabama showed poise under pressure. After falling behind early, the Tigers capitalized on a series of Choctaw errors to even the score. A pair of kills from Kinney and Jazlyn Snow swung momentum back in UWA's favor, giving them a 7-5 edge. The set remained close late, but the Tigers held firm, taking advantage of a Mississippi College service error before Snow sealed the 25-22 win with a kill.
Mississippi College responded in the third set, using a 5-1 run midway through to take control. West Alabama fought back behind Goeden's consistent attack and a string of defensive digs from Kinney, but the Choctaws held on to take the frame 25-20.
The Tigers regrouped quickly and dominated the fourth set from start to finish. Strong net play from Bobánová and Snow fueled an early 10-4 lead, while Kinney continued to orchestrate the offense. Petkovic added a pair of key assists, and Goeden's kills widened the gap to double digits. Gracie Pierscinski closed the match with a kill to give the Tigers a commanding 25-16 victory.
Kinney led the way with her first career triple-double, finishing with 13 kills, 22 assists, and 13 digs. Goeden also turned in another strong performance with double-digit kills.
The Tigers will now look to carry their momentum onto the road, traveling to Fairfield, Ala., to face Miles College on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
