LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete Saturday (Oct. 4) at the Chile Pepper XC Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., one of the largest and most competitive meets in the region.
The event, hosted at the University of Arkansas's Agri Park, will feature more than 69 collegiate programs from across the country, providing the Tigers with a strong midseason test against deep fields on both the men's and women's sides. Among the teams scheduled to compete are Gulf South Conference contenders Mississippi College and Union (Tenn.)
UWA enters the meet with momentum following an impressive showing at the Firehawk Invitational last weekend. The Tiger men claimed the team title in the 8K, placing six runners inside the top 15, including Mathis Breton (5th), Lorenzo Pelusi (9th), and Gary Mata (10th). On the women's side, Mercy Lomuria continued her consistency with a seventh-place finish in the 6K to lead the women's squad to a sixth-place team result.
With multiple standout performances already this season, the Tigers will look to build on their early success and measure themselves against some of the best competition in the nation. The men's 8K is scheduled for 10:25 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 11 a.m.
