LIVINGSTON, Ala. — West Alabama (10-12, 5-9 GSC) emerged victorious in a five-set battle against Lee University (12-12, 8-7 GSC) Friday night at Pruitt Hall.
The Tigers tallied 12 service aces in the match, proving crucial in the victory.
West Alabama opened strong, taking the first set behind early kills from Klára Bobánová and Cadence Goeden and key serving runs from Jana Petkovic and Bobánová. Lee responded by controlling set two behind defensive pressure and timely attacks to even the match.
The Tigers regained momentum in the third set, fueled by Katerina Korre and Bobánová, who combined for several key kills as UWA capitalized on Lee errors to take a 2-1 match lead. Lee answered in the fourth, overcoming a mid-set Tiger push sparked by KB Kinney's service aces to force a decisive fifth.
In the final frame, UWA jumped ahead early with Korre and Kinney leading the way. A service ace from Cloe Bonvillain and strong net play from Gracie Pierscinski and Mia McGuire helped secure the 15-11 finish and the match.
Katerina Korre earned Player of the Match honors, posting 10 kills and a career-high 17 digs.
The Tigers return to the court tomorrow to face Trevecca Nazarene at 1 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall.
