Tigers Extend Win Streak to Eight with Dominant 24-Point Road Win over Choctaws

CLINTON, Miss. - The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team moved their win streak to eight on Saturday after a 77-53 victory over the Mississippi College Choctaws at the A.E. Wood Coliseum.

West Alabama (10-1, 6-0 GSC) throughly dominated the contest from the opening tip. The Tigers shot 55.6 percent from the floor and 80 percent from three, while holding Mississippi College (6-6, 3-3 GSC) to 38.8 percent from the field.

UWA's 10-1 start in the 2025-26 season stands as the best start in School History.

A three from Elliot Tulip and BJ Brown Jr. is how UWA's offense got their day started. A layup from Mississippi College's Avaughn Johnson tied the game at six, momentarily until the Tigers went on an 11-2 run to take a 17-8 lead with 12:53 left in the half. At this point in the game, MC's active leading scorer Phil Nelson, picked up his second foul, forcing head coach Josh Brooks to sit him down for a good chunk of the half. With Nelson out of the game, the Choctaws' offense struggled, leading to the Tigers opening up a 32-21 lead. Nelson checked back in for Mississippi College at the 4:53 mark but it wouldn't matter as West Alabama kept their foot firmly on the gas. Baskets from Inslee Carroll, Travion McCray, and Jakobe Singleton propelled UWA to a 44-24 lead at the half.

West Alabama shot 61 percent from the floor and 71.4 percent from three in the first half, while holding Mississippi College to 42.3 percent from the field and 0-3 from three.

The Tigers picked up right where they left off in the first half, opening the second half on an 11-4 run to extend their lead to 27. Moments later, Tulip buried his third three of the night to give West Alabama their largest lead of the game at 58-29. MC kept fighting as they got UWA's lead down to 21 with 9:21 left to play, but the Tigers never let their lead slip to under 20 points, cruising to a 77-53 win.

Four Tigers scored in double figures with Carroll leading the way with a game-high 13 points. Tulip, Singleton, and Parr all added 11 points a piece while Christian Thompson grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

West Alabama will now get 10 days off before suiting back up against Williams Baptist on Tuesday, December 30 at Pruitt Hall.
