LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama women's basketball team put up a fight against No. 13 Union but ultimately fell 91-76 in Gulf South Conference play at Pruitt Hall on Thursday night.
Union (21-3, 16-1 GSC) used efficient scoring and a strong fourth quarter to pull away from the Tigers (3-19, 3-15 GSC), who had standout performances from
Kendall Lacoste and
Kaedre Denson.
Lacoste led all scorers with 29 points, shooting 10-of-19 from the field and 5-of-11 from three, while adding eight rebounds. Denson provided a strong inside presence with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and six rebounds.
Callie Cowan contributed 15 points and a team-high nine assists but was also tagged with a technical foul in the contest.
West Alabama shot 50 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free-throw line but struggled with turnovers, committing 30, which Union converted into 38 points.
Union had a balanced attack, with Olivia Lee leading the Bulldogs with 21 points and eight rebounds. Emily Jones added 20 points off the bench, while Shylee Morrison and Bethany Dillard each contributed 13 points.
Despite a strong fourth quarter in which UWA outscored Union 27-25, the Tigers were unable to overcome the deficit built in the first three quarters.
West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, February 15, at 2 p.m. in Pruitt Hall, hosting Christian Brothers for Senior Day.
