CLINTON, Miss. – West Alabama baseball dropped the final game of its Gulf South Conference series against Mississippi College, falling 15-3 on Saturday at Frierson Field.
The Tigers (5-7, 1-2 GSC) took an early lead in the second inning when
Blake Vineyard crushed a two-run home run, scoring
Nick Wilson for a 2-1 advantage. However, the Choctaws (6-4, 2-1 GSC) responded with a six-run outburst in the bottom half, highlighted by a grand slam from Bryce LaRocca to take control at 7-2.
Vineyard provided another spark for UWA in the fourth, launching his second home run of the game to cut the deficit to 9-3. He finished the day 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a stolen base.
Mississippi College continued its offensive surge, adding three more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to put the game out of reach. The Choctaws racked up 13 hits, including home runs from LaRocca, Korey Cooper, and Alex Johnson.
UWA's
Baker Green (0-2) took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits in 1.1 innings. Mississippi College's Blake Gollott (1-0) earned the win, striking out five over five innings while giving up three runs on six hits.
West Alabama returns home to Tartt Field on Friday, Feb. 21, to open a GSC series against Auburn-Montgomery at 5 p.m.
