LIVINGSTON, Ala. – In a dramatic 12-inning battle, the West Alabama Tigers walked off with a 6-5 victory over Auburn-Montgomery on Friday at Tartt Field.
Blake Vineyard delivered the game-winning RBI single in the 12th inning, securing the Tigers' second Gulf South Conference win of the season.
West Alabama (6-7, 2-2 GSC) struck early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Vineyard singled to center, bringing in
Jake Goolsby and
Joe Watkins. Auburn-Montgomery (4-7, 1-3 GSC) responded with runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, grabbing a 3-2 lead before West Alabama answered in the bottom of the fifth. Watkins launched a two-run homer to right field, followed by a solo shot from Goolsby, giving the Tigers a 5-3 advantage.
The Warhawks battled back, tying the game with runs in the seventh and ninth innings to send the contest into extras. Both teams' bullpens held firm until the 12th, when Vineyard's clutch hit sealed the win.
Bryant Quimby was dominant on the mound, setting a career-high with 11 strikeouts over five innings.
Jacob Marshall (2-1) earned the win, tossing a scoreless 12th.
The Tigers and Warhawks will continue their series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
