MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a high-scoring Gulf South Conference battle, the University of West Alabama women's basketball team pushed Auburn-Montgomery to the limit but fell short in overtime, 98-94, Saturday afternoon at the AUM Athletics Complex.
Kendall Lacoste led the way for the Tigers with a team-high 31 points, knocking down five three-pointers and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Shayla Golden put up a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while
Kaedre Denson added 16 points and 14 boards.
West Alabama (4-21, 4-17 GSC) overcame an early deficit, using a 26-point third quarter to take the lead heading into the final period. However, AUM (12-13, 10-10 GSC) responded behind Allasha Dudley, who poured in a game-high 33 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.
The game featured nine ties and 16 lead changes, with both teams shooting efficiently in the fourth quarter. The Tigers forced overtime after trading baskets down the stretch but were outscored 11-7 in the extra period.
West Alabama will conclude its season at home on Thursday, February 27, when they host Alabama-Huntsville at 5 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
