MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Men's Track and Field team is set for their encore performance this weekend after several Tigers set new personal bests in the season opener two weeks ago. Jentzen Moore and Jayson Lynch both set new personal bests in the One Mile race at the Samford Bulldog, with Moore finishing in 4:32.75 and Lynch finishing in 4:41.31. Both will be back in action this weekend as they look to build on their times.
An athlete who has caught the attention of the entire conference is Jamarion Walker. In his first collegiate meet, Walker placed 15th, in the midst of a Division I field, in the 400m race with a time of 51.98. The Sprinter's performance led to him registering his first GSC weekly award as he was named the GSC Freshman of the Week. The freshman is geared up for his second collegiate meet this weekend as he looks to continue turning heads at the Mississippi College Spring Classic.Â
A combination of Gary Mata, Dave Hubert, Sha'Kenye Darden, and Brian Easter will hand the distance events while Dedric Hicks will most likely compete in the Shot Put.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
After being named the GSC Track Athlete of the Week two weeks ago for her performance at the Samford Bulldog Invitational, Yakubu Balikis is set to lead West Alabama's Women's Team this weekend. Balikis kicked off her season, by setting a new personal best in the 60m race with a 7.63 time. The All-American Sprinter also dazzled in the 200m event, finishing eighth with a 25.03 time. Balikis will be involved in a handful of the short distance races this weekend along with Mikia Hutchings and Hayley Cook-Graham.
Augusta Arnold, Jordan Conner, and Marcy Lomuria will participate in the Distance events on Saturday. Arnold comes into the weekend, after recording a podium finish at the Samford Bulldog Invitational in the 800m race. The senior placed third in the event with a time of 2:27.81 while Lomuria looks to add another first place finish to her resume alongside Arnold. Lomuria won the 3000m event two weekends ago with a 10:13.76 time and is primed for the 5000m event on Saturday.Â
