LIVINGSTON, Ala. – University of West Alabama sprinter Balikis Yakubu has officially qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 200-meter dash, earning a spot among the nation's best after a season filled with standout performances.
Yakubu's qualifying time of 23.67 seconds ranks 26th nationally in Division II and secured her place in the national championship field, set for May 22–24 in Pueblo, Colorado.
She also ran a season-best of 11.53 seconds in the 100-meter dash, placing her just two spots shy of qualifying for nationals in the event.
Yakubu did suffer an injury during her appearance at the Lee Last Chance Meet on May 10. Her availability for the NCAA Championships will be determined following medical evaluation and testing in the days ahead.
This national qualification adds to an already stellar season for Yakubu, who was recently named the Gulf South Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Year. At the GSC Championships, she claimed the conference title in the 100 meters and took silver in the 200 meters.
As she works toward recovery, Yakubu remains a symbol of excellence for UWA Track & Field, with her sights set on making an impact at the national level.
