LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Following an outstanding performance at the Gulf South Conference Championships, University of West Alabama sprinter
Balikis Yakubu has earned one final opportunity to extend her season and compete for a place on the national stage.
Yakubu claimed the GSC title in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.71 seconds and secured a second-place finish in the 200 meters with a mark of 24.50 seconds. These strong results have positioned the graduate student for a potential berth in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
She will now turn her focus to the "Last Chance Meet," scheduled for Saturday, May 10, in Cleveland, Tennessee. The event represents a critical opportunity for Yakubu to improve upon her season-best performance in the 100 meters and meet the qualifying standard required for selection to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 22 (Thu) – 24 (Sat) in Pueblo, Colorado.
With the season on the line, Yakubu will look to build on her momentum and cap her collegiate career on the national stage.
