LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's cross-country teams are set to return to action this weekend at the Falcon Classic, hosted by the University of Montevallo (Montevallo, Ala.). The meet will feature several rival programs from the Gulf South Conference, giving the Tigers another opportunity to test themselves against familiar competition.
UWA enters the Falcon Classic coming off a solid showing at the UNA Invitational last Friday in Florence. The men's team claimed sixth place, highlighted by three top 30 finishes. Freshman Lorenzo Pelusi paced the Tigers with an 18th-place performance in the 8k (25:58.55), followed closely by Mathis Breton in 20th (26:09.26). Jentzen Moore rounded out the top 30 with a time of 26:29.27.
On the women's side, Mercy Lomuria nearly cracked the top 10, finishing 12th overall in the 5k with a time of 18:57.72 to lead the Tigers. Miriam Dominguez-Tellez (20:15.04) and Rita Walker (20:36.50) also turned in strong performances as UWA finished ninth overall.
The Falcon Classic will serve as an important test for both squads as they line up against familiar Gulf South Conference rivals. With early-season experience now under their belt, the Tigers look to build momentum and make another step forward in Montevallo.
