UWA Volleyball Stays Perfect at Home with Two Friday Wins

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team capped a strong Friday with two victories, rallying past Georgia College in five sets before sweeping U.S. Sports Academy at Pruitt Hall.

Game 1: UWA 3, Georgia College 2
West Alabama outlasted Georgia College in a five-set battle in front of the home crowd at Pruitt Hall. The Tigers tallied 64 kills and 10 service aces, overcoming a mid-match surge by the Bobcats before dominating the decisive fifth set.

Klára Bobánová led the way with 23 kills and 25.5 points, while Cadence Goeden added 18 kills and 12 digs for 20 total points. Katerina Korre contributed 13 kills and five blocks, and Jana Petkovic directed the offense with 56 assists and 10 digs.

After controlling the opening set, UWA dropped the next two before regrouping in the fourth. The Tigers then surged ahead in the fifth, building a 9-2 lead behind Bobánová and Goeden and closing the match with a 15-5 win.

Game 2: UWA 3, U.S. Sports Academy 0
West Alabama closed out the night with a sweep of U.S. Sports Academy. The Tigers hit .461 as a team and recorded 13 service aces while forcing 19 errors and collecting 36 digs defensively.

Gracie Huver was perfect on the attack with four kills on four swings. KB Kinney added seven kills and five digs, while Goeden posted seven kills and three aces. Petkovic once again ran the offense with 27 assists and added five service aces.

UWA jumped out early in all three sets, highlighted by a 9-0 run in Set 2 and a strong start in Set 3 sparked by Huver. The Tigers controlled the match from start to finish, completing the sweep in just over an hour.

West Alabama (now 4-0 at home) will return to Pruitt Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 24, to host the University of Montevallo Falcons in its first Gulf South Conference matchup of the season.
