Tigers Sweep Warhawks for Sixth Straight Victory

West Alabama's Six Match Winning Streak is the Longest in Program History since 2011

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — West Alabama (6-3, 2-0 Gulf South) swept Auburn University at Montgomery (1-8, 0-1 Gulf South) in straight sets on Thursday night at Pruitt Hall, winning 25-17, 25-15, 25-23.

This victory extended the Tigers' winning streak to six matches, marking their longest streak since September 2011. The Tigers posted a .430 hitting percentage for the match, with a match-high 15 kills in the second set. AUM struggled offensively, recording a .137 hitting percentage.

West Alabama initiated the first set with a commanding defensive presence, quickly gaining a 4-0 lead through solid blocks and capitalizing on the Warhawks' attack errors. Gracie Pierscinski and Katerina Korre were pivotal during this stretch, contributing to early points. The momentum continued as Klára Bobánová and Cadence Goeden's attacks further extended the lead to 10-2.

AUM managed sporadic responses, but the Tigers maintained control with consistent scoring from Goeden and Jazlyn Snow, supported by Jana Petkovic's assists. With the visitors struggling to sustain a rally, West Alabama capitalized on AUM's service errors. The Tigers closed the set decisively, with Korre and KB Kinney securing the final points, resulting in a 25-17 win.

The second set began with a momentum shift in the Tigers' favor after an early deficit. Pierscinski and Korre scored critical points to narrow the gap, while Goeden's consistent kills, assisted by Petkovic, fueled a pivotal run. West Alabama then surged ahead, gaining a 7-5 lead after consecutive kills by Goeden.

The home team maintained the pressure with crucial contributions from Kinney and another set of decisive kills from Korre. As the Warhawks struggled with attack errors, the Tigers capitalized, building on the lead. Snow and Petkovic combined for a block that further extended the advantage.

Closing the set convincingly, West Alabama capitalized on AUM's errors, while Goeden and Korre delivered the final blows to secure the set, 25-15.

The third set began with a strong display from West Alabama, as Petkovic delivered back-to-back service aces, quickly putting the home team in front. AUM briefly gained momentum, tying the score at 3-3 with effective serves from Kathryn Lupo. However, the Tigers regained control with kills from Gracie Huver and Goeden, keeping the score tightly contested.

Midway through the set, West Alabama found success through effective blocking, with Huver and Korre contributing significant stops. Despite AUM's attempts to pull ahead, including a service ace from Kiara Vega, the Tigers responded consistently with key kills from Kinney and Goeden, maintaining a narrow lead.

As the set reached its final stages, West Alabama capitalized on AUM's errors and executed crucial blocks by Huver and Korre to extend their advantage. With a decisive kill by Goeden to close the set, the Tigers secured a 25-23 victory, concluding the match.
