No. 9 Tigers Earn Convincing Win over Chargers to Extend Win Streak to 14

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team earned a decisive win over the UAH Chargers, 70-54, in a highly anticipated GSC contest on Saturday afternoon.

No. 9 UWA (16-1, 11-0 GSC) dominated the boards, out-rebounding UAH (12-5, 7-4 GSC) 50-35, while also holding the Chargers to a season-low 54 points to maintain their undefeated conference record and extend their win streak to 14.

"This game had an GSC Tournament, NCAA Tournament type of feel," said head coach Nick Woodruff. "That game was physical and tough. We did a phenomenal job of taking away the three-point shot, and that was the main goal."

The first half saw West Alabama establish an early lead with a 7-0 run, highlighted by a layup from BJ Brown Jr. and a three-pointer by Caleb Parr at the 18:39 mark. The Chargers responded with a layup from Knute Wood to tie the score at nine. Jakobe Singleton contributed significantly for West Alabama and displayed elite level shot making, burying multiple contested jump shots, including one at the 4:22 mark, pushing the Tigers ahead, 28-23. As the half closed, UWA held a 36-28 lead, with Brown Jr. and Elliot Tulip hitting jumpers to extend their advantage in the closing minutes.

West Alabama shot 48.5 percent from the field in the first half, while holding UAH to 37 percent shooting and 25 percent from three.

The Tigers extended its lead in the second half with an assertive 20 minutes of play over the Chargers. Christian Thompson started the half strongly for UWA with a dunk at 19:24, assisted by Tulip, and later contributed with a block and multiple rebounds. Parr and Rasean Frederick made significant impacts in the paint, combining for several points and key rebounds, as West Alabama dominated with 20 points in the paint. Despite efforts from the Chargers' Bryce Mason and Quentin Toles, the Tigers maintained control with baskets from Brown Jr., Singleton, and Parr while stifling UAH' offense, leading to a convincing 70-54 victory.

"We did some things really well tonight," coach Woodruff continued. "The hardest playing and toughest team doesn't always get rewarded but it got rewarded tonight."

Singleton recorded a double-double off the bench with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way.  Parr also contributed 16 points, including two three-pointers, and added six rebounds. Brown Jr. finished with 14 points and five assists. Thompson made a defensive impact with four blocks and collected eight rebounds.

No. 9 West Alabama will be back in action on Thursday when they host the West Florida Argonauts at 7:30 p.m.
