LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama (7–7, 5–6 GSC) dropped a 71–62 decision to No. 16 Alabama in Huntsville (16–3, 11–0 GSC) Thursday night at Pruitt Hall. The Tigers finished with 17 second-chance points and mounted multiple runs, but UAH capitalized on turnovers to maintain control.
West Alabama opened the game with an early 4–0 lead behind baskets from Bellah Machen and Shay Hunter before UAH responded to take a 20–14 advantage after the first quarter. The Chargers extended their lead in the second quarter, holding the Tigers to a 37–26 deficit at the break despite continued efforts from Hunter and Callie Cowan.
The Tigers showed resilience in the second half, matching UAH with 20 points in the third quarter and cutting into the deficit with key plays from Machen and Cowan. West Alabama continued to push in the fourth, using offensive rebounds, three-point shooting, and strong ball movement to stay within striking distance.
Despite a late surge that included three triples in the final quarter, the Tigers were unable to close the gap as UAH secured the 71–62 win.
West Alabama returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 22, hosting Florida at Pruitt Hall with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
