LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football team's Kendrick Joseph has been named the D2Football.com National Special Teams Player of the Week following his historic performance against Delta State on Saturday.
Joseph returned two kickoffs for 97-yard touchdowns against the Statesmen, becoming the first player in UWA history to record two kickoff return touchdowns in a game since Tyreek Hill accomplished the feat in 2015.
Joseph is also the third player in Gulf South Conference history to record two kickoff return touchdowns in a single game, joining Hill and Jordan Babineaux, who accomplished the feat for Southern Arkansas in 2003.
The redshirt freshman totaled a school record 327 kickoff return yards against Delta State, the most in a single game in NCAA Division II football this season. Following his performance, Joseph leads the GSC and ranks sixth nationally in kickoff return yards with 594. His average of 37.1 yards per return ranks third nationally.
Joseph previously earned GSC Freshman and Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance against Delta State.
Joseph and the Tigers will return home to Tiger Stadium on October 31 at 1:00 p.m. to face Valdosta State in a GSC matchup.
