LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team (24-3, 19-2 Gulf South) secured a decisive victory over Auburn University at Montgomery (5-21, 3-17 Gulf South), winning 103-65 on Saturday evening at Pruitt Hall on Senior Day.
Six players scored in double figures for No. 13 UWA (24-3, 19-2 GSC) while the Tigers dominated the glass, outrebounding AUM (5-21, 3-17 GSC), 52-28.
"Right now, we're playing for seeding in the NCAA Tournament and want to be playing our best basketball as we enter the GSC Tournament," said head coach
Nick Woodruff. "You either get better or you get worse and we want to continue to get better."
The Tigers opened strong with
Elliot Tulip hitting a three-pointer just 18 seconds into the game, assisted by
BJ Brown Jr. The Warhawks responded with a jumper by Jamarious Martin at 18:00 to get on the board. Tulip continued to lead West Alabama with multiple successful shots, including a three-pointer at 14:54, extending the home team's lead.
Christian Thompson's fastbreak dunk at 15:57, also assisted by Brown Jr., contributed to UWA's dominance in the first half. By halftime, West Alabama led 40-25, capitalizing on their superior rebounding and points in the paint.
The Tigers asserted its dominance in the second half, opening with a quick series of baskets by
Rasean Frederick, who converted on a three-point play within the first 20 seconds. Brown Jr. facilitated the offense with multiple assists, leading to a 57-32 lead at the 16:06 mark, highlighted by a three-pointer from
Caleb Parr.
Amillion Buggs contributed with a series of key dunks, helping West Alabama reach the century mark at 100-64 with just over a minute remaining. Despite efforts from AUM's Elhadji Thiam, who made several attempts from the field and turned in 30 points on the night, West Alabama's substantial lead remained unchallenged, resulting in a 103-65 victory.
Elliot Tulip scored 16 points, including three three-pointers, and added four rebounds. Brown Jr. recorded 11 assists and collected four rebounds. Buggs contributed with two steals and five rebounds. Frederick added 13 points, shooting 6-for-10 from the field.
No. 13 West Alabama will conclude the regular season on Friday with a matchup against UAH.
