LIVINGSTON, Ala. – No. 5 West Alabama Tigers baseball returns to Tartt Field this weekend to continue Gulf South Conference play with a three-game series against Montevallo Falcons.
The series begins Friday, March 13, at 5 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14, scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
West Alabama enters the weekend with a 19-3 overall record and a 10-2 mark in conference play, continuing one of the strongest starts in recent program history. The Tigers have relied on a potent offense and deep pitching staff that has helped them establish themselves among the top teams in Division II.
Offensive Production Continues for Tigers
West Alabama's lineup has been among the most productive in the conference, batting .328 as a team with 236 hits, 36 doubles, eight triples and 17 home runs while scoring 185 runs through 22 games.
Nick Wilson leads the Tigers at the plate, hitting .395 with 34 hits, five home runs and 27 RBIs while posting a 1.075 OPS.
Rashad Robinson has also been a major contributor, batting .351 with a team-high 26 runs scored while adding three home runs and 10 stolen bases.
Hudson Walburn continues to provide consistency in the middle of the order, hitting .329 with 26 hits and a team-leading 21 RBIs. Additional offensive depth has come from players such as
Wayne Wilkerson, who is batting .413 in 16 appearances, and
Diego Bryant, who has four home runs and a .758 slugging percentage.
Pitching Staff Anchoring the Success
The Tigers' pitching staff has been one of the team's biggest strengths this season, holding opponents to a .219 batting average while posting a 3.34 team ERA across 183 innings.
Blake Westry leads the rotation with a 1.29 ERA and a 3-0 record in six appearances, allowing just four earned runs in 28 innings.
Baker Green has also been dominant, entering the weekend with a 2.67 ERA and a 3-0 record across six starts while striking out 27 batters in 30.1 innings. Green is coming off a complete-game shutout performance in the Tigers' previous conference series. And will be coming off a weekend being named GSC Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week.
Colin Woodham and
Thomas Kerby have provided additional stability in the rotation, combining four wins while keeping opposing hitters in check. The bullpen has also been strong for the Tigers, with arms such as
Tyler Pierce recording two saves while maintaining a 2.25 ERA.
Montevallo Looking to Challenge
Montevallo enters the weekend with an 8-15 overall record and a 3-9 mark in GSC play. The Falcons are hitting .265 as a team and have been powered offensively by Jack Fitzgerald, who leads the squad with a .358 batting average and eight home runs. Ian Cartwright and McGwire Turner have also been key contributors for the Falcons' offense, combining 41 hits and 21 RBIs this season. On the mound, Luke Holbrook has been Montevallo's top starter, posting a 2.25 ERA across 36 innings with 27 strikeouts.
Series History
West Alabama holds an 88-65 advantage in the all-time series against Montevallo and has gone 9-6 at Tartt Field in the last 15 home meetings between the two programs.
The teams last met during the 2025 GSC Tournament, where the Tigers and Falcons split two contests before West Alabama captured the conference championship with a 13-4 victory in the title game.
With conference standings continuing to take shape, the Tigers will look to protect their home field and maintain momentum in GSC play this weekend.
